The Veterans Channel and The Sofina Foundation step up for
Portraits of Honour
The Veterans Channel, in partnership with The Sofina Foundation, was honoured to donate 20 turkeys for the Portraits of Honor Foundation holiday dinner which took place in Cambridge ON, Dec. 14, 2020.
The Portraits of Honour Foundation is a registered charity founded by artist Dave Sopha that educates
Canadians and honours the service and the sacrifice of men and women who serve
with the Canadian Forces and as First Responders. An
important part of the Foundation’s mandate is to pay respect to those who suffer
from lasting physical or emotional injuries such as PTSD – Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder. Activities of the Foundation have included fundraising for
mental health.
The Sofina Foundation is the charitable arm of Sofina Foods
Inc., which Canadians will know through brands that include Mastro, Lilydale,
Janes and San Daniele. Sofina Foods Founder, Chairman and CEO Michael Latifi
and his wife Marilena founded The Sofina Foundation in 2007 with a focus on
supporting causes related to children’s issues. This arose from their own
personal experience as parents with the difficult birth of their first child. Since its founding, The Sofina Foundation has
proudly partnered with various charities across Canada and the U.S. with an aim
to positively impact the communities in which Sofina Foods operates.
As it is for many Canadian families, mental illness has
become part of the daily reality for the Sofina family. This has compelled them
to support a variety of worthy causes, including those related to veterans and
first responders.
For this reason, The Sofina Foundation this year donated 20 turkeys to The Veterans Channel, which in turn were passed on to the Portraits of Honour Foundation for its annual holiday dinner.
The Veterans Channel is operated by Veterans Media Corporation
(VMC). VMC provides veterans and first responders all over the world and from
all branches of service with online and mobile platforms through which they can
educate, edify and uplift one another.
“It is our honour and privilege to be part of the veterans and first responders communities across Canada and to support them in any way we can,” said Henah Hannah, Founder and Chair of VMC. “I want to personally thank the Latifi family for this generous gift and for appreciating how important it is to support the brave men and women who put their personal safety and mental health on the line for the sake of us all.”
