
Eric Birnberg
Eric Birnberg is a highly experienced media and entertainment lawyer, producer, and business affairs executive who serves as Legal Counsel for Veterans Media Corporation (VMC). His background is characterized by a unique combination of in-house corporate law experience, production expertise, and specialization in the complex legal and business aspects of the Canadian media industry. His expertise is essential to VMC for navigating the legal complexities of content development, production, distribution, and broadcasting on a global scale.
Eric Birnberg, LL.B has been executive producing a variety of film and television projects, both independently and through High Park Entertainment Inc., for more than 15 years.
Recent projects include the Canadian animated family television movie “Pirate’s Passage” for Netflix & CBC (written and produced by Donald Sutherland and Brad Peyton, and starring Donald Sutherland), and the feature film thriller “Night runners” (shot on Rusinga Island in rural Kenya), premiering at the Zanzibar International Film Festival. Other select credits include the Canadian animated primetime television series “Bob and Doug” for Shaw/Global, and the sci-fi/erotica television series “Forbidden Science” for HBO/Cinemax, TMN and Movie Central.
Complementing his producing activities, Eric is a partner in the Toronto-based media, entertainment, technology and telecommunications law firm, Lewis Birnberg Hanet, LLP, serving an array of clients from Canadian television series hosts to Canadian and international production and distribution companies, and broadcasters. Eric spent eight years in senior management positions, in-house, with Alliance Atlantis, including Sr. VP, Business & Legal Affairs for the Television Group, and General Counsel to the entire Alliance Atlantis organization. Earlier in his career, Eric was Legal Counsel at Canada’s preeminent pay television network, The Movie Network. In such roles, Eric has performed a variety of business and legal roles on a wide variety of film, television and digital media projects for more than 25 years.
In 2002, Eric co-founded and remains a partner at the Toronto-based company Behind the Scenes Services Inc. (BTS), which provides comprehensive business affairs and administrative services to the Canadian film and television industry. Later, he co-founded the production service company Front and Centre Productions Inc., the Toronto based production house for several US network television movies, and one US feature film. He is also the President of High Park Entertainment 20/20 Inc., and has produced and executive produced various film and television projects, including the Netflix Original series October Faction.
Eric is a founding partner of Digital Howard, a 360° digital media company that recently won the 2017 Canadian Screen Award for Best Cross-Platform Project – Fiction for “Wynonna Earp Interactive”, and a shareholder in other startup ventures. He was a founding partner in BITE-TV, a Canadian digital broadcaster that won an International Emmy in 2007 for Best Interactive Channel.
Birnberg is actively involved in media industry governance, sitting on the boards of the Canadian Retransmission Collective (CRC) (as Vice-Chair) and the Producers Audio-Visual Collective of Canada (PACC) (as Chair). He is also a member of various committees within the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA).
